Recently, we’ve been eagerly anticipating new material from the extraordinary Tony Njoku - a London-based producer, musician and singer who’s experimental flair has always set him apart from the crowd. Returning today with ‘Rhododendrons’, Njoku’s commitment to stepping outside of his comfort zone and trying something new shines through. Effortlessly executing some stunning vocal gymnastics, his celestial falsetto floats in a glacial sonic space as sparse verses are gently encouraged by steady acoustic drum hits. Ambient synthesizers dictate the mood for the bulk of the piece, followed by the uplifting introduction of heavenly strings and powerful electric guitar parts, that push the track into an unexpectedly rocky space. Arguably his most accomplished piece to date, ‘Rhododendruns’ sees our appreciation for this bold and uncompromising artist flourish.
