TONY NJOKU LOOKING FOR LIGHT

A firm favourite here at TMR, London's Tony Njoku shares the exploratory new single 'Looking For Light'. Following the intoxicating instrumental 'La Ruée', 'Looking For Light' is the second sample of Tony Njoku's forthcoming EP Last Bloom. Placing his ambitious vocals front and centre, the lyrics are raw and inquisitive, gliding easily over syncopated piano parts and futuristic synth sounds. He explains: "I think the best art is made as an emotional response to an experience, something in the artist's heart that is trying to find light in the world. For myself, amongst many things, art is a way for me to express my inner world in an attempt to make sense of the outer-world and my relationship with it. And in that process I feel the art at its best doesn’t give answers but instead unearths questions that can help establish a dialogue or push an ongoing conversation..” Descending into darker territory towards the conclusion of the piece, Njoku's experimental application of production techniques creeps in, as pitched vocals accompany the instrumentation to a dizzying end. Tune in to 'Looking For Light' as we await the arrival of Last Bloom on the 3rd of May. -Holly Mullineaux
