Philadelphia shoegaze band they are gutting a body of water have returned with their new single, ‘American Food’. The track continues to explore the band’s shoegaze revival sound, blending atmospheric guitar work with a slow, expansive post-rock sensibility. ‘American Food’ doesn’t dive as far into experimentalism as some of their work does, choosing instead to stay locked into one guitar loop while warped samples ebb and flow beneath, and a quiet, melodic voice floats at the top end. Cryptically, bandleader Douglas Dulgarian says on the single: “All them atrocities is far from our minds, when the vices help us thru.” The band are playing live in the UK this summer, be sure to check them out. -Dan Peeke
