THE SHIPBUILDERS HILLS OF MEXICO

The Shipbuilders have released their latest track, ‘Hills Of Mexico’. The Liverpool-based band have a gift for storytelling, and their music and lyrics are almost capable of transporting you to a new world. This cut takes you into the jangly, indie-folk era of the 90s, and allows you to bathe in its nostalgic melodies. The end result is truly atmospheric and guided by its cleverly crafted lyrics. “I've long had a fascination with the Spanish Civil War and Ernest Hemingway’s 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' is essential,” says singer-songwriter Matty Loughlin-Day. “Whilst reading the book, so many powerful lines and images jumped out and smacked me in the face, so in writing this song, I wanted to capture the sense of drama, adrenaline and anticipation that comes across in the text.” The Shipbuilders’ album, This Blue Earth, drops on July 11th, 2025. -Dan Peeke
