THE ROEBUCKS MONA

Brighton-based Americana quartet The Roebucks have revealed their new single, ‘Mona’. The band brings together two disparate influences: the gritty twang of Mississippi blues and the edgy disaffection of the Brighton suburbs. The end result is an idiosyncratic piece of jingly rock, defined by sludgy guitar work and Lou Reed-esque spoken word vocals. The track is “written about (singer) Tom Cotter's frustration with covid and how it was isolating him to his bedroom. Without wanting to be too literal we changed the lyric from "Hey Rona" to "Hey Mona". When we had a girl's name instead, it became more of a song of yearning for a lost lover.” The band will be performing around the UK this summer. -Dan Peeke
