‘Piston Ghosts’ is the new single from South London outfit The Queen’s Head. The track sees their blend of spoken word, disco and indie move in a darker direction. There’s an unnerving rumble coming from the bass and shifty off-beats on the guitar, but it is the drift towards musique concrète and the explosion of industrial electronics that come at the end of the track that really cement this one as their masterpiece. “I’ve always viewed ‘Piston Ghosts’ as a political song,” explains Tom Butler.  “One where power dynamics are defined by the material circumstances agents find themselves in. Where the opportunity to dream of something better - to see the value in supposedly valuable things like hobbies, conversations, currency, poetry - is dashed by the repetitive, mechanical nature of a technofeudal world.” The band will be releasing their new EP, Titanic, on July 8th, 2025. -Dan Peeke
