THE NEW EVES HIGHWAY MAN
A band that have been on everyone's lips for the last year of so, eccentric Brighton quartet The New Eves announce their signing to Transgressive with 'Highway Man'. The menacing piece of alt-rock has been a mainstay of their live show and encapsulates a lot of whats so great about them. Grounded by a hypnotic rhythm section, scratchy electric guitar takes turns with frantic cello parts to take centre stage. Fleshed out by ritualistic backing vocals, Nina Winder-Lind takes the lead (this time), delivering a raw, half-spoken-word performance, reminiscent of the one and only Patti Smith. And whilst the influence of such a great is evident, there is nothing old hat about The New Eves. Standing firmly in their own lane, 'Highway Man' is a statement of intent from a truly exciting up-and-coming outfit. -Holly Mullineaux
