Wirralian five-piece The Dream Machine have revealed their new single, ‘Fort Perch Rock’. The track refuses to ease you in slowly, with the clang of dissonant chords and off-kilter, fuzzy guitars creating an instantly hazy music landscape. Their psych and punk influences take on rock and roll is topped by Zak McDonnell’s impossible to predict lead vocal, which shrieks its way through a series of surprisingly catchy hooks. They describe the track as “like looking through a backwards telescope at a song, it’s a tiny smashed up version of a band playing at their loudest. Fort Perch Rock is a whole place and a feeling. It’s a look back at beauty pageants and outdoor swimming baths of the 1950’s, then a sharp look down at your ice lolly, hairy and melted in the sand.” It is the title track from their current EP, which is out now. -Dan Peeke
