Tape Runs Out are a unique band situated in the middle of an often oversaturated genre. While the opening moments of their new single, ‘Souvenir’, might sound like yet another indie band, what we end up with is an interesting musical journey through a variety of textures, influences and time signature changes. Their song structures are non-standard, and hidden amongst their rock lineup we find a violin and, even more unusually, a hammered dulcimer. Each instrument adds to the band’s unique timbre. On the accompanying video, band leader Liam Goodrum-Bell says: “Each of the 27 separate scenes in the video represents an average of about 90 minutes planning and crafting, getting everything to look right, trying different arrangements, and then animating.” The band have announced their debut album, Floodhead, which is due for release via Trapped Animal Records on March 31st, 2023. -Dan Peeke.
