Melbourne's cinematic soul band Surprise Chef return with new single 'Rosemary Hemphill'. The band explain, ''Rosemary Hemphill' is a deep ode to one of our guiding stars, the late and very great David Axelrod. Like much of Axe's work, it's equal parts sweet and spooky. Special dedication to Herbie Hemphill's mum'. 'Rosemary Hemphill' pans out like a journey with many turns down various sonic paths. Opening the track, a single strung out guitar chord repeats at a leisurely pace, inviting the listener to slow one's thoughts and feel deep. The carefully crafted bass part never aims to take over, rather slot into the pre-existing spaces and illuminate the gorgeous melodies of the guitars, synths and keys. As the song progresses, it gains energy and implants a sense of awe when the grandiose synths arise.
