‘one thing’ is the latest release from strongboi. The first thing you notice is the uniquely tuned drum kit, which has a deep, full sound that makes it feel unusually punchy and impactful. The second is the hazy warmth of the piano, whose chords bounce beneath a jittering acoustic guitar and a wash of keyboard chords. Alice’s voice is distant and soaked in reverb, instantly transporting the listener to a faraway place that doesn’t quite feel real. The duo have elevated from their ultra-lo-fi roots into a full band setup, but they clearly never lost that liminal charm.
