STICK IN THE WHEEL DARK STREETS OF LONDON
Currently on tour in Ireland (in support of their phenomenal recent album A Thousand Pokes), alt-folk lynchpins Stick In The Wheel share their idiosyncratic take on The Pogues' 'Dark Streets of London'. Featuring Mr Spider Stacy himself on tin whistle, the duo (now a trio) were assigned responsibility of performing the iconic track live as part of The Pogues 40th anniversary shows last year. Making it entirely their own, whilst retaining the spirit of the song, their comparatively pared back instrumentation lets the lyrics shine through as vocalist Nicola Kearey's inimitable vocal style rings clear as a bell. Resisting some cheeky NSFW lyric changes for the recorded version, Sticks' rendition lands right on cue as the nights begin to draw in. Catch them live in the UK later this month and into November if you know what's good for you. -Holly Mullineaux
