STARCHARM THE COLOR CLEAR
Chicago trio Starcharm share their debut single and avoidant attachment anthem, 'The Color Clear'. The noise rock trio consisting of Elena Buenrostro (vocals/guitar), Jasmin Feliciano (bass), Amaya Peña (drums) was born out of Buenrostro's recording project Soft and Dumb. 'The Color Clear' is Starcharm's first effort as a full outfit, now signed to Fire Talks Records' emerging artists imprint Angel Tapes. Buenrostro says the track is, "inspired by a time when I lost all faith in love and felt like men were seeing me as a projection instead of a real person. I was going through a bit of nihilistic mania during this time, which I think you can definitely hear. An avoidant attachment anthem if you will.” What stabilises the rocky, evasive nature of avoidance held in the wired electric guitar that shifts between strained plucks and more cohesive, jangly strums is its grounding, full-bodied bassline. It favours Buenrostro's soft, slightly broken croon of 'I'm not the one', carrying a sense of both acceptance and exasperation. Despite its newly realised emotionally detached themes, it's a promising first statement brought to life by the experience of deep connection. -Kayla Sandiford
