SPEED TRAINING HIGH TREASON

Having spent the last week or so supporting the brilliant Porridge Radio, idiosyncratic sad-pop enthusiasts Speed Training have revealed their spooky new single 'High Treason'. Taking a more sombre approach than their dizzying debut 'Hot Wheels (On The Race Track)', 'High Treason' opens to eerie, circuit-bent keys, a sound that Speed Training and vocalist/songwriter Charlie Loane's former project Great Dad have become synonymous with. Ominous bass swells beneath Loane and Caitlin Power's complimentary dual vocals, who's sophisticated lyricism shifts from the political to the surreal as the track progresses. As ever, Loane's production is sparse, lo-fi and distinctive, creating the perfect environment to get the band's message across. Arriving alongside a disturbing yet oddly-moving DIY video, directed by Susan Potts, (which also sees Goat Girl drummer Rosy Bones make a striking appearance as a menacing referee) 'High Treason' is a provocative release that'll keep you coming back for more. -Holly Mullineaux
