LIST PICK

SOFIE ROYER KLEIN-MARX

With the release of her new album Harlequin just around the corner (the 23rd of September to be precise), Stones Throw-signing Sofie Royer treats us to yet another early taste in 'Klein-Marx'. Exuding a similarly eerie and theatrical vibe to that of previous List Picks 'Feeling Bad Forsyth Street' and 'Schweden Espresso', the song is named after the Klein-Marx bridge – or Klein-Marxer-Brücke in Royer's hometown of Vienna. “I sing about wanting to throw myself off the bridge when the going gets tough, the wry joke being that the bridge is not very high and underneath it the Vienna River flows shallowly, running into the Donau Canal.” Masking some of the song's more sombre messages with shiny guitars, sparkly synth sounds and some irresistible bass grooves, 'Klein-Marx' is a sonic juxtaposition between darkness and light. Watch and listen here now. -Holly Mullineaux
