Shannon Lay is an American folk-pop artist who was raised in California and resides in L.A. She previously fronted the band Feels, and now is focused on her solo career, signed to Sub Pop. Lay has released the new single 'Rare to Wake', following her 2020 single 'Clay Pigeons'. 'Rare to Wake' opens with woody-toned plucked guitar, whilst Lay's vocals drift with ease. Water being a consistent theme in her music, Lay opens the song with the words 'I'll miss the sea, but I'm longing to grow'. She continues, 'I will miss my home, but I'm longing to grow', her voice layered in lusciously supple harmonies. A hint of electric piano nestles into the track.
