SEA CHANGE IS THERE ANYBODY THERE
We've been attentively following the serene stream of singles being released ahead of Sea Change's forthcoming new album Mutual Dreaming. With it's arrival rippling not so distantly on the horizon, 'Is There Anybody There' is another immersive droplet from what's bound to be an impressive body of work. As ever, Sea Change's spine-tingling production is circumambient, enveloping listeners with softened synth sounds and embryonic subs, as trickling beats gently encourage you move. Placing more emphasis on the lyrics and vocal melody than on previous cuts, 'Is There Anybody There' is both literal and existential in its message as Sea Change explains: "'Is There Anybody There’ came from a very lonely place - it was in the middle of the lockdown and all the streets were empty, and I guess I can say for a lot of people it was quite lonely at times. But then the song developed into this mindset where I tried to put myself into the body of someone who feels this lonely and alienated all the time, who longs for contact and validation, someone that’s outside of the system, living on the fringes of society, longing to be understood." Mutual Dreaming comes out on the 11th of February via Shapes Recordings. -Holly Mullineaux
