RIP MAGIC LOOT/DOX
London's RIP Magic have finally made their debut with double single 'LOOT/DOX'. Formed of Sorry's Marco Pini, Felix Bayley-Higgins, Beth Boswell-Knight and Pedro Takahashi, the outfit have cut their teeth on London's live circuit, simple scene chatter coalescing into a loyal following, sold-out shows and packed out slots at The Great Escape and Wide Awake. 'LOOT/DOX' marks RIP Magic's first recorded material, and it's well worth the wait. 'LOOT' opens the magnetic introduction with slick synth work and polished gleams of sound undercut by clunky, motoric textures, fragmented vocal clippings and a lurching percussive groove. There's a dozy sense of negative space contrasting against the clatter, which churns into the more melody-driven sections of 'DOX'. With greater lyricism, broader rhythmic twists and a digitised "RIP Magic" ad-lib, the mixed terrain of 'DOX' is a confident face on their debut. Together, the two tracks serve as a sonic montage - a compelling introduction that demonstrates RIP Magic's handle on crafting something both experimental and tuneful in an eclectic couplet. -Kayla Sandiford
