ORA COGAN SEA PEOPLE

'Sea People' is the enchanting new offering from Vancouver-based multi-instrumentalist Ora Cogan. Taken from her recently released LP Crickets, 'Sea People' masterfully weaves together elements of everything from experimental folk, to blurry psychedelia and electronic krautrock. Cogan's majestic swooping vocals demand our attention immediately, but it's the rich textural landscape beneath, including a sample of her godmother's wolf dog "howling in the Kootenay mountains", that uncovers an attention to detail rarely seen in music this accessible. Inspired by "the pain & anger of being in an endlessly hungry capitalist & colonial society on a dying planet", 'Sea People' is a self-aware call to arms that contradicts its whimsical nature and asks its listeners to consider their role as a human being. -HLMX
