OCTOPUS HAPPY TODAY

For fans of Pavement, Feet and Radiohead, here’s a new one for you - Octopus. Formed in Manchester by brothers George and Fred alongside friends Joe and Rowan, this fresh-faced four-piece release their sophomore single ‘Happy Today’ via Somewhere Great Records/PIAS. As with debut ‘Kaleidoscope’, ‘Happy Today’ taps into elements of shoegaze, psychedelia and post-Britpop. It sounds so warmly familiar, and the commentary of being young and a little lost is timeless. Octopus say of their new single: “It’s about things not quite going your way and doing nothing about it… except sliding into some corduroy.” As this song hits ears of keen young listeners, expect corduroy sales to skyrocket, because even when life has got you down, you can at least rely on those sturdy garms. - Hannah Thacker
