NYOKABI KARIũKI NAZAMA

A song that's as stunning as this press image by Gianfranco Bello, 'Nazama' is a sensory new single and the cleansing conclusion of Nyokabi Kariũki's forthcoming debut album FEELING THE BODY. Meaning "sink" in Swahili, the track caresses your eardrums like gentle waves kissing a sandy shoreline. Kariũki's layered vocals wash delicately over the mix, enveloping you entirely in her sonic realm, that's tastefully fleshed out by textural field recordings and distant strings. There’s also a nod to the symbolism of healing water in the biblical context of the River Jordan in new single, as Kariũki explains: “There is a lot to say about being sick, about being sick during a pandemic; about how the world treats you if you are sick for longer than “just a cold”,” says Nyokabi. “But, I am ever in awe of our bodies, and how they keep going, despite and in spite of all the pain we go through in life. In a way, this album is an expression of love, and gratitude, to my own.” FEELING THE BODY will arrive on March 3rd via cmntx Records. -Holly Mullineaux
