Whilst the numerous break-ups and reincarnations of San Franciscan band No Vacation could rival the plotlines of any soap opera, one thing remains – they are a band capable of producing exceptional dream-pop. Now reformed and back in action, the group have released a stirring video to accompany new single ‘Mind Fields’. With break-ups close to the band’s heart, ‘Mind Fields’ charters a perfect young couple cycling through their most blissful memories. As these shots are gradually interchanged with one half of the couple visiting the same places alone, the memories slowly take on a sad, nostalgic quality, ending with the inevitable but uplifting sentiment that no reality is as perfect as a memory. Speaking about the video, which is directed by Patrick Mattes, No Vacation say “It’s about realizing that nothing is ever as good as it seems, yet embracing the freedom of letting it all go.” We’re promised that ‘Mind Fields’ is the precursor for an upcoming larger release this summer.
