MJ LENDERMAN WRISTWATCH
A jewel in the crown of MJ Lenderman's brand new album Manning Fireworks, 'Wristwatch' is an affecting slice of slacker-rock with a novel Western twang. Landing somewhere between early Clap your Hands Say Yeah and Alex G's most country-coded works, touching tongue-in-cheek lyricism recounts the familiar and the ever so slightly absurd as Lenderman relays: 'I got a beach home up in Buffalo / And a wristwatch that’s a compass and a cell phone' before concluding it’s just 'a wristwatch that tells me / I’m on my own.' A tune that's set for a sing-a-long on Lenderman's forthcoming sold out UK and Ireland tour, 'Wristwatch' is a melancholy late-summer anthem to contemplate your place in the world to as the nights roll in. -Holly Mullineaux
