MERLYN DRIVER ONTO SOMETHING
‘Onto Something’ is the new release from nature-focused singer-songwriter Merlyn Driver. His music is raw and tender, and his voice mostly supported by nothing but warm guitar chords. Halfway through the track, Driver introduces us to a luscious arrangement of folky strings that guide us toward a calm, instrumental conclusion. On the track’s inspiration, he says: “I had a dream in which I encountered a Sámi woman on the London Underground. She handed me a shawl, which started to disintegrate in my hands. As it did, I found myself walking down the hill toward my childhood home as a melody started flitting about in my head. Somehow, I knew it was meant to be the ‘missing’ chorus of ‘Climbing High Mountains’ so I woke up and recorded the tune.” Driver’s long-awaited debut album, It Was Also Sometimes Daylight, is out on October 10th, 2025. -Dan Peeke
