MARY IN THE JUNKYARD TUESDAY

A band that have been hot on the lips of those in the know for a while, London-based trio mary in the junkyard's commitment to relentless live performances across the capital and further a field, including Green Man and End of the Road Festival, has put them in excellent stead to drop their highly anticipated debut single. Out via AMF Records, 'Tuesday' is a whimsical yet heavy offering that explores vocalist and guitarist Clari Freeman-Taylor's adjustment to life in a sprawling conurbation. In her own words, “I wrote ‘Tuesday’ when I was first experiencing life in a city and was feeling very small. It’s so easy to be swept along with the bustle and noise and feel like a worker ant amidst thousands of others.  I wanted to write about my yearning for chaos and realness - we all have wildness within us that we might be suppressing and we shouldn't feel like aliens because of it.” Seesawing between sparse, tender interludes, cradled by an eerie chord progression; thick drops of fuzzy bass and pounding live drums; and more melodic, fast-paced sections, 'Tuesday' gives us a generous glimpse into the band's multi-tonal sound. mary in the junkyard will play a sold out show at Brixton's Windmill this evening, whilst tickets are now available for their headline show at Corsica Studios on 24th of March. Grab a ticket if you like what you hear and watch this space for more from one of the most talked about acts of the moment. -Holly Mullineaux
