MARY IN THE JUNKYARD DRAINS

Fast-rising trio mary in the junkyard delve a little deeper on their thoughtful new single 'drains'. Like a less terrifying version of It, the opening line 'I've been all over for you, in all of the drains of the city' sets the tone for the rest of the contemplative and quirky track. Sonically seesawing between melancholy moments of distorted guitar and energetic drums, there's a sinister undertone to vocalist Clari Freeman-Taylor's folky delivery as she explains: "I am curious about the bowels of the city, we don't see what's below but there are many pipes and caves . and my friend once said 'if you bury yourself i will dig you out again' and i wanted to immortalise it because it made me feel so warm". Brought further to life by the inimitable talents of stop-motion extraordinaire Edie Lawrence, 'drains' comes accompanied by a novel black and white video, which is certainly worth a watch.
