MAL NOT BAD LIFE

Sought after session musician (and clearly a very talented songwriter in their own right), LA's Mal Hauser (pka Mal Not Bad) shares the philosophical final taste of their forthcoming debut This Is Your New Life. Having cut their teeth with the likes of Mk.gee, Skullcrusher and Jay Som, 'Life' is an expectedly accomplished offering. Opening to intimate upfront vocals and brassy modulated synth sounds, that slice angularly through the track; Hauser's playful production makes for a truly immersive listen. Keeping you on your on your toes with unexpected panning and a rich tapestry of digital and organic elements, 'Life' sounds akin to a cleaner pop take on some of our favourite lo-fi acts like PALM or Chanel Beads. Toeing the line between accessibility and experimentalism very well, their lyrics are introspective yet relatable as they explain: "Loss makes room for growth in a way that the two feel one-in-the same — that point of the circle that starts again.  The lyrics reflect on relationships — to ones we love, to our own inner turmoil + mental health, to our relationship with death and life itself." Listen to 'Life' as we await the arrival of Mal Not Bad's first LP on the 9th of August. -Holly Mullineaux
