KHAZALI STORIES

North London's Khazali made his debut on indie label SLOW DANCE’s first compilation in 2016 with Ode to Mark (ft. Minnie Bunce) - a considered electronic track with soulful undertones and experimental production. On new single ‘Stories’, Khazali returns to his bedroom, using hazy lyrics lifted from his 15-year-old dream journals, and is a peek into his plans for an upcoming 2020 EP. 'Stories' sees spongey synth pads over a broken beat which creates a minimal and cosy space. The beats are light, with chalky, soft edges. Khazali's vocals have a soulful quality, as well as an uplifting pop sensibility - they're submerged in under-water reverb and delay, floating calmly downstream. Overall, the track feels wonderfully intimate like a bedroom experiment should, but the production style is certainly accomplished and considered, propelling this track beyond the four corners of Khazali's walls. -Ellie Rose-Davies
