JOAN TOKYO

Arkansas pop duo joan encourage listeners to act on that spontaneous feeling of "that moment when you're falling for someone, but your time is running out" and instead of worrying about the future “you end up saying: 'Let's just run away together.'" In this scenario, it would appear that Toyko is the amorous destination of choice, and sure, if you're going to run off into the sunset together, why do it by halves? The soundtrack to ‘tokyo’ seems lifted straight from the '80s with fluid pop melodies, synth percussives and a sparkling aura of stage-worthy guitars. It seems here, more than any other joan track, that you could imagine the pair playing live thanks to those strings. That should come as no surprise really, as Alan Thomas and Steven Rutherford met at a gig while playing in other projects. Putting daydreams of a joan gig aside, 'tokyo' is a retro-pop groove for turning up at the start of a night out. Who knows what might happen? - HT
