JASMINE.4.T I CAN'T BELIEVE I DID THIS WITHOUT YOU
2025 has been a whirlwind year for jasmine.4.t. Following the release of her utterly brilliant debut album You Are The Morning in January, it's been non-stop gigging since then. Winning over audiences all over with her razor-sharp live band and even more poignant messages, the announcement of a new deluxe version of the album comes with an important dedication. Arriving alongside the aptly-titled single 'I Can't Believe I Did This Without You', she explains: "This deluxe version of my record is dedicated to my best friend, the political prisoner Yulia Trot aka YBT. Yulia carried me through my transition, teaching me makeup, putting me up on her sofa when I was homeless, and protecting me from violent men when I started touring...She became my chosen family, my mother, my sister, my daughter. Late last year, we heard the horrible news that Yulia had been arrested in a violent raid. She is one of the Filton 24 (@freethefilton24) - arrestees alleged to be connected with a group of actionists entering the UK headquarters of Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit systems in August 2024, where £1m worth of damage was said to be caused. This included killer Israeli drones that have been reported to target Palestinian children in Israel’s genocide in Gaza. She was initially arrested under terrorism law, and although the terror charges were subsequently dropped, this allowed the state to make an example of her by keeping her for two years without trial and subjecting her to poor conditions of imprisonment. Her prosecutor’s contact details were shared with Israeli officials. This led to the intervention of the UN and several international humanitarian law firms, to no avail. Her chosen family, many of whom are trans, have been visiting her regularly four hours away in the maximum security private prison where she is kept, where recently a trans friend of hers died in custody. This comes at great financial and emotional cost to us all, not to mention the danger and trauma we face on each visit, all to watch Yulia’s mental health deteriorate. The new tracks on this record were some of her favourites, and it is an honour to dedicate these recordings of anti-state rage to her. Of all the things I have lived through, nothing has felt as big as losing her. I hope that one day she will hear this. Help at freeyulia.com". -Holly Mullineaux
