IONA ZAJAC BANG

Recently recovered from her mammoth tour supporting Alison Moyet, followed by a substantial stint singing and playing harp with The Pogues (what can’t she do?), Iona Zajac shares ‘Bang’. An instant classic about the joy of sex, dreamy verses give way to an unforgettable chorus that Angel Olsen or Sharon Van Etten would be proud of. Appropriately building in intensity, a well-placed middle 8 prepares listeners for its ecstatic climax. Not to be missed is the accompanying video directed Jonny Blair, which (for better or worse) will be burnt into our collective conscious forever. She explains: “I wrote this song when I realised sex could be good. While that feels like something that should be taken for granted, it wasn’t for me as a young woman growing up. I think that’s the case for a lot of people. Confusing clashing bodies, often shadowed by the evil teenage world of slut shaming. I hated my body and I couldn’t figure out how to enjoy it. Then suddenly it was as it should be, the shame was gone and I wanted to shout about it." Watch and listen to ‘Bang’ here now - but maybe not if you’re at work.
