LIST PICK

HORNET CAFE L

Appearing on her new EP 253a well street, "an ongoing project that will continue throughout the rest of the year because there are no rules", 'Cafe L' is a strikingly distinctive piece of hyperpop from Hornet. Opening to tinny 808 hats and a brutal electronic kick sound, Hornet's catchy vocal melodies are doused in ethereal effects, adding a sultry sense of luxury to the edgy underbelly of the track. Lyrically accomplished, prompting thoughts and imagery that lasts long after the song ends, Hornet poses poignant observations and questions like, 'if the sun comes up do you call it morning?' Joining equally phenomenal recent offerings 'Betty Draper' and 'leaving with lisa' on the aforementioned EP, Hornet is one of the most exciting 'ones to watch' we've encountered in a very long time. -Holly Mullineaux
