Psychedelic-prog five piece Hey Sholay straddle the great musical centres of Yorkshire - Sheffield and Leeds – but also take inspiration from the cosmic and mystic: “sholay” is a Hindi word alluding to the embers or flames of the sun. Their latest track ‘Ribcage’ demonstrates perfectly this contrast of influences. The chorus is full of indie-style open-hearted yearning; the verse is distorted and dirgey, with a stilted, stop-start drum beat; the bridge of the track falls sublimely into drifting, dreamy shoegaze.
