H. HAWKLINE PLASTIC MAN
Trundling cooly towards the release of his new album Milk For Flowers, swooning Welsh songwriter Huw Evans (pka H. Hawkline) shares the evocative 'Plastic Man'. Setting frenzied guitar work against shiny sax flourishes and jaunty keys, Evans' idiosyncratic vocals deliver subtly neurotic lyricism. Moist poignant in the second verse, "you're right you know, I'm like a lizard stuck on a stone, tryna go home, help me, help me, help me", there's a comic undercurrent to the piece that doesn't go amiss. Evans elaborates:"The last song written for the album, need more than must, twirling cane and top hat gliding down a molten stairway in the middle of summer. Tim Presley wrote that opening guitar line — I watched him piece it together like a scribble, animating itself into a Muybridge off-cut." The Cate Le Bon-produced record will be released on the the 10th of March through Heavenly Recordings. -Holly Mullineaux
