London based foursome Flying Ibex are making quite the statement of intent today, with their ferociously addictive new single ‘Away From My Mind’. Their first release since signing to Best Laid Plans (Rationale, Rag'n'Bone Man) - this single appears to mark a burgeoning new phase in the outfit’s existence. Originally centred around the talents of lead-songwriter Barnaby Keen, the quartet (now consisting of guitarist/vocalist Nathaniel Keen, drummer Dave De Rose, and Chilean bassist Colin Somervell) have honed their sound, and it sounds sensational. Presumably quite a leap from their humble beginnings as the house band for a commune of artists in South London - ‘Away From My Mind’ blends tropical rhythms with psychedelic instrumental touches to superb effect, delivering something that fans of Django Django, Yeasayer, Metronomy and the like will be instantly drawn to. A reincarnation? A new start? Whatever you want to call it, this is lots of fun. -JC
