On latest single ‘Tear Up The Picture of My Kids’, Enjoyable Listens (AKA Luke Duffet) croons in a slick, commanding baritone, and for a moment you might forget that this is the sound of a man waging war against local wildlife. Duffet describes the track as an “exploration into the deep depths of depravity of the UK’s urban wildlife” adding that “in a quest for vengeance, we find ourselves stained with the same dye.” The cartoonish narrative is backed by a powerful and victorious hyperpop instrumental, produced and mixed by in-demand South London engineer Joe Futak. Huge bass growls and bright synthesisers playfully bound by as Duffet sings “they got it coming, I’m gonna set their tails ablaze”. Now, it goes without saying that we at TMR do not in any way condone vigilante justice against the animal kingdom, but as someone who has had chickens eaten by foxes I understand Duffet’s frustration, plus it does sound like the squirrels started it. Saying that, animal rights activists who may want a word with Enjoyable Listens can catch him touring the UK with The Bluetones this spring. -Adam Brown
