LIST PICK
EMMELINE DUST (FEAT. KOJEY RADICAL)
An artist poised to hit the big time any minute now, wordsmith Emmeline enlists the talents of Kojey Radical on her poetic new single 'Dust'. Ushering us further into her world with a captivating video, directed by Will Jaques and creatively directed by Emmeline herself, the vivacious piece is both comfortingly nostalgic and boldly current. Applying room-shaking beats to a sparkly synthesised backdrop of strings, piano and synthesizers, Emmeline's vocals sit upfront, allowing every word to shine. Hopping onto the beat after the first chorus, Radical's verse brings power and edge to the lighthearted elements of the composition, Emmeline explains: “We wanted to make a song that was bold and playful, and that captured the spirit of the EP, with themes of theatricality and the legacy of a life on the stage. We used musical nods to Peter Pan and Frank Sinatra, whilst I wrote with references to Shakespeare and classic Hollywood; it’s a song about ageing and wish fulfilment, and how great art rarely fades to dust.” Listen to 'Dust' and the rest of Emmeline's new EP Small-Town Girls And Soft Summer Nights, which is out now. -Holly Mullineaux
