Young troubadour Elujay has made it his mission to put the funk into ‘Funktion’ in his latest track, and we can safely say he’s achieved just as much with the simple, groove-laden number. As with previous List Pick ‘Little Thangs’, the Oakland artist has this great ability to put a smile on your face with his lofi soul, funk-fuelled melodies and feelgood songwriting. It’s instantly catchy thanks to that repeated refrain, which gives way after the first minute for a rap verse of vital heart-on-your-sleeve honesty. ‘Funktion’ is one for riding through the mid-week all the way to the weekend. - Hannah Thacker
