DONNA THOMPSON SUNNY APRIL SHOWERS (LIVE AT JAZZ STROUD)

A treasured musical talent, and mesmerising live performer (we were lucky enough to host her at our Alt Escape showcase last year), PRAH-signed songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Donna Thompson returns with 'Sunny April Showers'. Albeit Autumn falling into Winter, the Spring-inspired piece brings with it a sense optimism and regeneration. Recorded live at Jazz Stroud, featuring Thomspon's friend and bandmate Alabaster DePlume on sax, the beautifully restrained offering catches the magic of the moment as whimsical harps and delicate rhythms cradle Thomspon's spellbinding vocals. Overcoming severe struggles and adversity to reach the place that she finds herself in now, the flourishing artist explains: "This song is about that feeling of awareness of multiple states of being existing simultaneously and observing each of them. Some of them intense, some of them joyous and others very confusing. Asking questions and trying to figure out if there’s a way to tap into something that calms it all down enough to make some kind of sense of it all. Or figure out if we even need to." Londoners (or those willing to make the trip) can catch Donna Thompson live tomorrow night at the Servant Jazz Quarters, alongside Tony Njoku and NiCKY, to celebrate PRAH Recordings' 10th anniversary. -Holly Mullineaux
