DIVVAS WHITE ROOM

South London's SLOW DANCE brought our attention to Swiss avant-pop duo DIVVAS when the pair released their haunting debut 'Koac' last month. Following up, 'White Room' is an equally enthralling offering. Opening with an atmospheric sense of emptiness, Corrine Nora's raw and intimate vocals scratch their way through a protective cloak of effects. Taking a slightly more structured turn around 1 minute 20, an eerie sequence of synth notes welcome a trap-inspired beat that propels DIVVAS' nostalgic, trip-hoppy sound into a innovative futuristic realm. DIVVAS explain: "The song is about emotional abuse, power and codependency. In the absence of self love, we begin to rely on the outside world for our self image and confidence, allowing something or somebody to shape our identities and having power over us. This force can take on any form, from a toxic relationship to religion, to patriarchy, to nationalism. The song depicts this struggle for freedom and self love once you realize the abuse and dependency. About regaining your inner and outer strength and fighting against the state of complete powerlessness."-Holly Mullineaux
