DISCO DOOM MT. SURREAL
Swiss band Disco Doom are gearing up to release their first new album in 8 years Mt. Surreal, releasing the skilfully disjointed title track today. Originally formed in 1996 and built around duo Gabriele De Mario and Anita Rufer the band have been making adventurous indie music for over two decades, and are still intent on pushing boundaries with the erratic compositions on 'Mt. Surreal'. The band reflect on the writing process and how the track came about, "‘Mt. Surreal’ was a lot about finding a balance of simplicity and complexity. It took us a lot of time to find the right arrangement, mixture and balance between all parts. We merged sounds of different instruments to get a new sound that matched the deserted, bleak mood of the song - we used a bass, an arp synth and pitched drum sounds. It's easy to feel lost in today's uniformity. The song rejects the familiar and goes its own way - to the surreal.” Mt. Surreal will be released on Exploding In Sound Records on September 16th. -Toby Evans-Jesra
