We selected sultry Hackney-based trio deep tan as one of our Top 20 of 2019 last year off the back of a string of promising early cuts including 'Shimmer' and 'Air'. Returning with a sharper sound, that leans into the minimalism of cold-wave, 'Deepfake' sees the threesome uncover a previously unseen darkness. From its frightening subject matter to its spiky instrumentation, 'Deepfake' is meant to make you feel a little uncomfortable as they explain: "The song is a comment on consent. When deepfakes first emerged, they were considered a real political threat. However, they’re mainly used to degrade women. A report by Deeptrace Labs found that 96% of deepfakes online involve simulating porn of female celebrities (without their consent).
