DANIYEL BLACK WALLS

The first track from Daniyel’s brand new Madison High EP, ‘Black Walls’ is a powerful piece of modern hip-hop. The songwriting reflects his time at the titular high school, with honest lyrics being guided by the impactful palette of sound that sits underneath. The influence of Dr Dre is clear, but he is able to modernize that classic hip-hop sound by permeating it with lo-fi sounds and trap beats. The school in question was torn down and rebuilt, with Daniyel being able to relate this concept with his own struggles with homelessness. As such, the lyrics are ponderous and reflective and give a good representation of what the rest of the EP will sound like. - Dan Peeke
