COREY FLOOD SOFT
'Soft', the second single from Philadelphia-based Corey Flood's debut EP Wish You Hadn't, is an example of slacker rock at its best. Not sounding dissimilar to another prolific Philly songwriter (Sandy) Alex G who's famous for his own heady brand of lo-fi bedroom pop, Ivy Gray–Klein's hushed vocals taunt almost eerily above a trashy drum beat and minimal grunge-inspired bass and guitar melodies. Discussing the track Gary-Klein said: “Soft is about trying to establish boundaries for yourself only to have them trampled on. It’s a reflection on the concept of the “soft boy” as a sort of emotional Trojan horse. That despite your best efforts to create a safe barrier around yourself, someone can still infiltrate it under the guise of emotional connection. It ultimately brings you to a reckoning with yourself and being resigned to the fact that you can never really know a person until you do.” Wish You Hadn't comes out on the 23rd of February. -HLMX
