CLARISSA CONNELLY AN EMBROIDERY

Having captivated us with her striking recent single 'Wee Rosebud', Scottish-born, Copenhagen-based producer, composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Clarissa Connelly has announced her debut album World of Work with a breathtaking new single. Weaving together modern and ancient elements in a way that it appears only she knows how, 'An Embroidery' is an eclectic fabric of different styles, genres and moods. Beckoned by church bells, the opening sequence sounds a little like a sophisticated bard-core take on one Kate Bush's most ethereal works, as Connelly's impeccable vocals guide the composition. Dipped in reverb and otherworldly delays, the heavy atmosphere recounts the darkness of the Cocteau Twins, seen out by a truly monstrous guitar solo as Connelly explains: "An Embroidery was one of the first songs I wrote for World of Work. It truly is about gathering all the threads and making an embroidery; making an album." World of Work will be released through Warp Records on the 12th of April, ahead of her headline show at Kings Place (London) on the 15th of May, which, from what we've heard so far, is not going to be one to miss. -Holly Mullineaux
