BROADSHEETS CHEVRON

On latest single ‘Chevron’, Bristol-based experimental outfit Broadsheets are equal parts dark, atmospheric and slick. At the intersection of slowcore, trip-hop and dub the band move shrouded in darkness, the bass smooth and elastic, guitars sharp and distant. Verses are subdued and tense, choruses raw and cathartic. The song's final act is a haunting coda, which is layered and textured intentionally and carefully, to beautiful effect, and herein lies the strength of Broadsheets. Having first become a band by improvising together it is given that Broadsheets know how to play off one and other, however this musical skill combined with their exquisite taste, their choice of sounds and arrangements, is what makes tracks like Chevron sublime. When playing live, Broadsheets take a utilitarian approach to their art, often switching roles within the band as is needed, allowing for a communal approach in which experimentation can flourish. For those wishing to witness the magic first hand, Broadsheets have several upcoming shows across the UK including London’s Shacklewell Arms on 30th May. -Adam Brown
