BOIL KING HOMER
To describe Otley-born, London-based polymath Boil King as anything other than an oddball would be doing a disservice to his bold, idiosyncratic vision. Prompted by an irresistible eBay purchase (we'll let you guess what that was), the multi-instrumentalist, artist and filmmaker has unveiled a cinematic video for his new single 'Homer'. Embodying the well-loved Simpsons character, but not quite as we know him, Boil King takes to the streets of South East London, undoubtedly giving nightmares to passers by for weeks to come. Propelled by fizzy Casio beats and distant thuds of acoustic drums, Homer writhes in time to the seedy soundscape, with a frankly unnerving effect. Whilst there's certainly something surreal and uncanny about this offering, Boil King's accomplished melodies and layered vocals playfully ground the track, making it an accessible listen in spite of its strangeness. Culminating in a triumphant climax, created through rising harmonies and the tasteful application of warped vocal effects, 'Homer' is a satirical peek into the world of Boil King that's sure to stay with you. -Holly Mullineaux
