BEVERLY GLENN-COPELAND LA VITA
The man who has worked for years on kid's TV shows like Sesame Street, has simultaneously been creating tinglingly spiritual ambient master-pieces that mix jazz, folk and classical styles. Beverly-Glenn Copeland has been working ceaselessly on music from the age of 15 when he was classically trained as a singer, and eventually traded his oboe for a guitar. In Glenn's words, “I was busy creating, that was the fundamental thing for me. Now the universe is saying: ‘This music we’ve been sending you, now is the time for it to be heard.’” His speech is measured and perfectly enunciated, every sentence delivered with a beaming smile. Glenn has released his third album, which is an epic, soulful journey. 'La Vita', the first track on this album is layered with thick, expansive strings, melodic percussion and a reserved drum beat. Grandiose operatic vocals act as another layer of instrumentation, along with the low, silky sax parts. Glenn pleads "I work and I work all day and night, I wonder if I'll ever get it right, I push and I push to get ahead, I wonder if I'll make my daily bread...I barely have time to shed a tear", the instruments build more intensely, whilst more passion and soul takes over his voice when he sings "the body says remember you've gotta breathe, the body says take the time to grieve, the mind says let the silence flow, the mind says allow yourself to grow". Carrying the same soulfulness and pain as Nina Simone, and a unique depth of tonality to his voice, Beverly-Glenn Copeland's music may make you cry and ponder upon the weight of the world, and the value of your soul. -Ellie Rose Davies
