BAMBOO WEEPING IDOLS

London-based duo BAMBOO have shared news of their forthcoming new album Daughters of the Sky alongside a religious-inspired tongue-in-cheek video for lead track ‘Weeping Idols’. Combining the quintessential 80s reverb-drenched drum sound, (think Tiffany’s iconic ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’), with a bubbling synth-bass sequence and plenty of glitchy Digitech Whammy action, there’s a fresh and exotic feel to the duo’s most melodic cut to date. With singer Rachel’s dynamic vocals dipping in pitch and spiralling off with otherworldly delays in all the right spots, you can sense the catharsis in the track, making it feel more like a religious experience than a simple pop song. The band explained, "On the surface ‘Weeping Idols’ is probably the poppiest song Rachel and I have made together, the music I wrote is coldly positive and intransigent but Rachel’s darker lyric is still there to be discovered under the sheen." Regarding the video, Rachel clarifies the track’s 80s roots, adding, “We were inspired by Tears for Fears' video for 'Shout', and the other figure in the video is a sort of pilgrim which connects to the religious nature of the lyrics." -Holly Mullineaux
