One of the pioneers of African desert blues, Ali Farka Touré blends traditional Malian music and African American blues. Voyageur is the first release of previously unheard music since 2010’s Grammy-winning Ali & Toumani, and features a collection of previously unheard gems captured at various points in Ali’s illustrious career. The album features fellow Malian superstar Oumou Sangaré on 3 tracks, including the 5th track, 'Cherie (feat. Oumou Sangaré)'. The song opens with a fast guitar riff comprised many notes which falls as effortlessly as a gush of wind blows a bountiful load of leaves from a tree. The polyrhythmic percussion ambles with an earthy spirit, providing a rooting for the wandering guitar. Malian Wassoulou singer Oumou Sangaré joins Ali with hearty, liberated vocals that go from melodic, to rhythmic and unrestrained - the tonality of the two voices create a beautiful combination.
